In the Jo'burg series Guy Tillim considers the private lives of the residents of inner-city Johannesburg, the often-forgotten subjects of the decay and renewal of a city undergoing radical transformation. The series, produced with the support of Tillim's DaimlerChrysler award for South African Photography in 2004, went on to win him the Leica Oskar Barnack Award for photojournalism in July 2005. With its concertina binding, the book is a beautiful art object in its own right.
