Curated by Liese van der Watt, the exhibition frames the country's democratic journey as a 'an ongoing process'.
Steven Cohen takes part in the 2024 Fierce Festival at the Midlands Arts Centre in Birmingham, with his performance of put your heart under your feet...and walk! In this performance where he 'invites the public to celebrate love with him, and to engage in a dialogue with death', Cohen 'conducts a ritual of rare power dedicated to the memory of his late companion, Elu. In 2017, death separated the two men after 20 years of living together. Cohen turned to art to deal with the loss, transforming pain and absence into an imagistic ode.'
Steven Cohen takes part in the Transforme festival in Paris at the Théâtre de la Cité Internationale with his performance of Boudoir. Taking inspiration from the boudoir as a traditionally bourgeoise room reserved for feminine conversations, Cohen, through performative installations makes it into a place of new-found and affirmed liberty through the drawing together of sexuality and philosophy, intimacy and a social critique of restrictive dogmas and powers.
Performances will take place on 4 October and 6 October 2024.
