The Purpose is Discourse is a side-gallery project initiated by Aza Mbovane and Mosa Molapo, which seeks to contemplate the surrounding art ecosystems and their complexities, through discussion, activations, and collaboration.
For the second activation of the project, Mbako Kago Moemise and Denzo Nyathi join Aza Mbovane and Mosa Molapo in a pop-up exhibition titled Curators’ Kiki.
A ‘Kiki’, described as a social gathering, serves a purpose in sharing stories, exchanging gossip, and is usually accompanied with laughter and general revelry. Adopting this language and tone of community and collaboration, the Curators’ Kiki allows for the four young curators to make a concise selection of works to be presented within the gallery. With each selection, the curators and artists in conversation will reveal how they are led to the decisions they make, and the rationale that guides emerging curatorial questions and curiosities.
Exhibiting artists: Naledi Chai, Bronwyn Davis, Adele van Heerden, Khulekani Magudulela & Puseletso Masemen, Thero Makepe, Sepideh Mehraban, Lungile Ngcobo, Kwazokuhle Phakathi, Cazlynne Peffer and Inga Somdyala.
Join us for the opening on Saturday 20 July, from 11am to 2pm.
